Technical Description
Code P02E0 is triggered when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects an open circuit in the Intake Air Flow Control Valve control circuit. Unlike a gasoline throttle body, this valve on a diesel engine is primarily used to manage EGR flow by creating a vacuum, to aid in DPF regeneration by increasing exhaust temperatures, and to ensure a smooth engine shutdown. The ECM monitors the circuit continuity; an open circuit means the ECU cannot actuate the valve motor via its PWM signal.
Possible Causes
Wiring harness open circuit to the intake air flow control valve
Faulty intake air flow control valve (internal motor coil failure)
Defective connector (corrosion or backed-out pins)
Internal Engine Control Module (ECM) failure

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
