Technical Description
P02E5 is set when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects that the Diesel Intake Air Flow (VIA) control valve is stuck in the open position. The ECU monitors the flap position via a position sensor (potentiometer or Hall effect). If the ECU commands the actuator to close or modulate, and the feedback signal indicates it remains open, the code is stored. This component is essential for managing EGR flow by creating a pressure differential and ensuring a smooth engine shutdown by cutting off air supply.
Possible Causes
Mechanical obstruction or excessive carbon buildup preventing valve movement
Failed intake air flow control actuator (internal motor failure)
Wiring harness issues (corrosion or open circuit) between the actuator and ECU
Faulty Engine Control Unit (ECU) failing to process feedback signals

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
