Technical Description
P02E6 is triggered when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects a signal voltage from the Intake Air Flow (IAF) control position sensor that is higher than the maximum calibrated limit, typically above 4.8V. This throttle-like valve in diesel engines is used to manage intake airflow for EGR efficiency, DPF regeneration, and smooth engine shutdown. The sensor monitors the actual position of the flap. This code usually points to an open circuit on the ground wire or a short to voltage on the signal wire.
Possible Causes
Open circuit in the sensor ground wire
Short to voltage in the signal wire (shorted to 5V or 12V)
Faulty Intake Air Flow (IAF) valve assembly (internal sensor failure)
Faulty Engine Control Unit (ECU) or corroded connectors
Symptoms
Recommended Solution
- Visual Inspection: Check the connector at the intake air flow valve for corrosion or backed-out pins. Inspect the wiring harness for chafing.
- Measure Reference Voltage: Disconnect the sensor and measure between the 5V reference pin and ground with ignition ON. It should be exactly 5.0V.
- Test Ground Circuit: Check continuity to ground. An open ground is the most common cause for a 'Circuit High' code.
- Advanced Diagnosis: Use a scan tool to monitor live data while manually moving the flap (if possible) or performing an output test. Signal should sweep smoothly between ~0.5V and ~4.5V.
- Replacement: If wiring is verified and the sensor output is stuck high, replace the intake throttle body assembly and perform adaptation.
