Technical Description
P02E8 is stored when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects that the signal voltage from the Intake Air Flow (IAF) position sensor is below a calibrated threshold (typically less than 0.2V to 0.5V). In diesel engines, the intake throttle actuator is used to manage EGR flow, DPF regeneration, and to ensure smooth engine shutdown. The sensor provides feedback on the flap's actual position. A logic failure occurs if the reported position does not match the commanded duty cycle or if the electrical signal drops due to a short-to-ground or open circuit.
Possible Causes
Faulty Intake Throttle Body/Actuator (internal short or worn potentiometer)
Wiring harness damaged or shorted to ground
Corroded or loose connector terminals at the throttle body
Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
