Technical Description
The P02EB diagnostic trouble code is set when the engine control module (ECM) detects a range or performance issue with the Diesel Intake Air Flow (DIAF) control motor. This valve is critical for managing the air-to-EGR ratio, DPF regeneration cycles, and smooth engine shutdown. The ECM monitors the actual position of the butterfly valve via a position sensor (typically a Hall effect sensor). If the actual position deviates from the commanded position for a specific duration, or if the motor draws excessive current due to mechanical binding, this code is stored.
Possible Causes
Mechanical binding or carbon buildup (soot/oil) in the throttle bore
Failed intake air control motor (internal gear stripping)
High resistance or corrosion in the wiring harness connector
Outdated ECU software or internal ECM failure

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
