Technical Description
P0346 is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects that the signal from the intake Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor for Bank 2 is erratic or outside of the expected performance range. Unlike a total circuit failure (P0345), P0346 implies the signal is present but inconsistent with the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor reference. This can be caused by EMI (electromagnetic interference), incorrect air gap between sensor and reluctor ring, or mechanical timing issues such as a stretched timing chain or faulty variable valve timing (VVT) phasers.

- MULTIMETER MEASUREMENT: Verify reference voltage (typically 5V or 12V) and ground. Measure sensor resistance if it is an inductive type (typically 200-1000 Ohms).
- OSCILLOSCOPE TEST: Monitor the signal while the engine is running. Ensure the square wave (Hall-effect) is clean, free of interference, and correctly timed with the crankshaft signal.
- MECHANICAL CHECK: If the signal is stable but incorrectly timed, check for timing chain stretch or VVT system malfunctions.
- COMPONENT REPLACEMENT: Replace the camshaft position sensor on Bank 2. Clear codes and perform a road test.
