Technical Description
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0349 is defined as Camshaft Position Sensor 'A' Circuit Intermittent (Bank 2). This code triggers when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects an inconsistent or erratic signal from the camshaft position sensor on engine bank 2. The sensor typically uses a Hall-effect principle to monitor the camshaft's rotational position for fuel injection timing and variable valve timing (VVT) control. The 'intermittent' nature of this code suggests the circuit is losing continuity or experiencing signal noise periodically, causing synchronization issues between the crankshaft and camshaft. This often leads to the PCM disabling VVT and entering a fail-safe or Limp Mode.
Possible Causes
Damaged or oxidized wiring harness/connector
Faulty Camshaft Position Sensor (internal intermittent failure)
Reluctor wheel/tone ring issues (loose or damaged)
Low battery voltage or starter motor interference (EMI)
Faulty Engine Control Module (PCM/ECU)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
