Technical Description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) monitors the ignition coil primary circuits. P0355 is triggered when the ECU detects an electrical abnormality in the circuit for Ignition Coil E (typically cylinder 5). The ECU monitors the peak inductive voltage produced when the primary circuit is de-energized. If the expected feedback pulse is missing or incorrect, the ECU concludes there is a circuit fault. This will often lead to the ECU disabling fuel injection for that cylinder to prevent unburned fuel from damaging the catalytic converter.
Possible Causes
Faulty ignition coil (internal short or open winding)
Wiring issues (chafed insulation or corrosion in connectors)
Poor ground connection for the ignition system
Failed driver circuit in the Engine Control Unit (ECU)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
