Technical Description
P0360 is a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) that refers to a malfunction in the ignition coil 'J' primary or secondary circuit. 'J' denotes the 10th cylinder in the firing order. The Engine Control Unit (ECU) monitors the ignition coils by checking for a specific voltage drop or an ignition confirmation signal (IGF) once the coil is fired. If the circuit is open, shorted to ground, or shorted to voltage, the ECU will register P0360. This often leads to a misfire and potential shutdown of the specific fuel injector to protect the catalytic converter.
Possible Causes
Defective ignition coil (internal short or open circuit)
Damaged wiring harness (chafing) or corroded connector at ignition coil J
Faulty spark plug (excessive resistance taxing the coil)
Failed ignition driver within the Engine Control Unit (ECU)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
