Technical Description
P0363 is a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) that indicates a misfire has been detected and the Engine Control Unit (ECU) has subsequently disabled the fuel supply to the affected cylinder(s) to prevent catalyst damage. While codes P0300-P0312 identify the misfire itself, P0363 specifically confirms the protective action of 'fuel cut-off'. The ECU monitors crankshaft speed fluctuations to identify precise misfire events and triggers this protective strategy when specific thresholds are exceeded.
Possible Causes
Faulty ignition coil or spark plug
Clogged or faulty fuel injector (prior to ECU shut-off)
Mechanical engine fault (low compression, leaking valves)
Faulty crankshaft position sensor or damaged tone ring

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
