Technical Description
P041A is a generic OBD-II diagnostic trouble code indicating an electrical malfunction within the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) sensor circuit labeled 'B' on Bank 2. The ECM monitors this signal to manage DPF regeneration and protect engine components like the turbocharger from overheating. The code triggers when the signal voltage deviates from the calibrated range (typically outside 0.5V to 4.5V). Most EGT sensors are NTC thermistors, meaning resistance decreases as exhaust gas temperature increases.
Possible Causes
Faulty Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) sensor B (Bank 2)
Damaged or melted wiring harness due to contact with hot exhaust components
Corrosion or poor pin tension in the sensor electrical connector
Internal Engine Control Unit (ECU) failure

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
