Technical Description
P041D is stored when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects a voltage signal from the EGR Temperature Sensor B that is higher than the maximum calibrated limit (typically above 4.8V). This is interpreted as an open circuit or a short to voltage. The EGR temperature sensor is usually an NTC thermistor where resistance decreases as temperature increases. A 'High' input signal suggests infinite resistance (open circuit). This failure prevents the ECU from accurately monitoring EGR efficiency, leading to disabled EGR operation, increased NOx emissions, and potential limp-home mode engagement to protect engine components.

- Multimeter Test (Voltage): Measure voltage at the sensor connector with the ignition ON. You should find a 5V reference and a clean ground.
- Multimeter Test (Resistance): Measure the internal resistance of the sensor. At roughly 20°C, it should typically read between 10k-100k Ohms (refer to OEM specs). Infinite resistance (O.L) confirms a failed sensor.
- Circuit Continuity: Verify continuity between the sensor connector and the ECU pins to rule out wiring breaks.
- Component Replacement: If wiring is intact and 5V reference is present, replace the EGR temperature sensor and clear the fault codes.
