Technical Description
P0437 is set when the engine control unit (ECU) detects a voltage signal from the catalyst temperature sensor (Bank 2, Sensor 1) that is below the calibrated limit. This typically indicates a short to ground in the sensor circuit. These sensors are often NTC thermistors; a very low voltage signal (typically below 0.2V) suggests that the circuit is either grounded or the sensor has failed internally, preventing the ECU from accurately monitoring catalyst efficiency and protection.

- VISUAL INSPECTION: Inspect the wiring to the sensor on Bank 2. Look for melted insulation due to proximity to the exhaust system.
- CONNECTOR CHECK: Check the connector pins for corrosion or moisture. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.
- RESISTANCE TEST: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance using a Multimeter. If the circuit shows near 0 Ohms when it should be high, the sensor is internally shorted.
- CIRCUIT VERIFICATION: With ignition ON, verify the 5V reference voltage at the harness connector and check for continuity to ground.
- REPLACEMENT: Replace the catalyst temperature sensor if it fails the resistance test. Clear codes and perform a test drive while monitoring live data for realistic temperature readings.
