Technical Description
The P0443 code indicates an electrical malfunction within the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) system purge control valve circuit. The Engine Control Unit (ECU) monitors the integrity of the solenoid circuit by checking for expected voltage drops when the valve is commanded. The purge valve is a PWM-controlled (Pulse Width Modulation) solenoid that regulates the flow of fuel vapors from the charcoal canister to the intake manifold. This code triggers when the ECU detects an out-of-range electrical signal, such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power.
Possible Causes
Faulty EVAP purge control solenoid (internal short or open coil)
Damaged wiring harness or corrosion in the connector pins
Blown fuse providing power to the EVAP solenoid circuit
Failed Engine Control Unit (ECU) output driver

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
