Technical Description
P0445 indicates that the Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected a short circuit in the control circuit of the EVAP Purge Control Valve. The valve is typically a PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) solenoid that regulates the flow of fuel vapors from the charcoal canister into the intake manifold. The ECU monitors the circuit for expected voltage and current draw. If the ECU detects an abnormally high current or a voltage state that implies a short to ground or power, P0445 is triggered. This fault code focuses on the electrical integrity of the solenoid and its wiring rather than vacuum leaks.
Possible Causes
Internal short circuit within the EVAP Purge Solenoid
Wiring harness chafed or melted, causing a short to ground or voltage
Corrosion in the connector creating a bridge between terminals
Failed driver circuit in the Engine Control Module (ECM)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
