Technical Description
P0448 is a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for a short circuit within the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) vent control valve circuit. The ECM monitors the vent valve, which is typically a normally open solenoid that allows fresh air into the charcoal canister. When the ECM commands the valve closed for leak testing, it monitors the feedback voltage. If the resistance in the circuit is too low or if an unexpected voltage state is detected (indicating a short to power or ground), the ECM stores P0448. This code is specifically related to electrical circuit integrity, not the flow or sealing performance of the EVAP system.
Possible Causes
Internal short in the EVAP vent control valve (solenoid failure)
Wiring harness chafing or damage causing a short to ground or power
Corrosion in the connector causing an electrical bridge/short
Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM) with a failed internal driver stage

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
