Technical Description
P0449 diagnostic trouble code (DTC) indicates an electrical malfunction within the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) vent valve control circuit. The vent valve is responsible for allowing fresh air into the charcoal canister so it can be purged of fuel vapors. The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the continuity and voltage of this circuit. If the ECM detects an improper voltage drop or resistance when the solenoid is commanded ON or OFF, P0449 is stored. This code specifically targets the electrical integrity of the solenoid and its wiring, rather than vacuum leaks or flow issues.
Possible Causes
Faulty EVAP vent solenoid (internal short or open coil)
Damaged wiring harness (rubbing against chassis or corrosion in connector pins)
Blown fuse (often shared with other engine components)
Internal Engine Control Module (ECM/PCM) fault

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
