Technical Description
P0454 is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects an erratic or intermittent signal from the Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor. This sensor is part of the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) system and monitors pressure/vacuum within the fuel tank to perform leak testing. The 'Intermittent' nature of this code suggests that the signal is flickering or jumping rapidly, typically caused by loose connections, wiring harness chafing, or an internal sensor fault, rather than a steady out-of-range value.
Possible Causes
Defective Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor with internal intermittent fault
Damaged wiring harness (chafed or corroded) causing momentary shorts or opens
Corroded or loose pins in the sensor connector
Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM) misinterpreting the sensor signal

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
