Technical Description
P0458 is a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for 'Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit Low'. The ECM (Engine Control Method) monitors the purge valve circuit. This valve is responsible for allowing fuel vapors stored in the charcoal canister to be drawn into the engine to be burned. The ECM controls the valve using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). P0458 is triggered when the ECM detects a voltage signal that is lower than expected, typically indicating a short to ground in the signal circuit or a complete loss of power supply to the valve.
Possible Causes
Faulty EVAP purge control valve (internal short)
Wiring harness issue (short to ground on the control circuit)
Blown fuse supplying power to the EVAP solenoid
Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
