Technical Description
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P045B is triggered when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects a performance issue with the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) 'B' control circuit. This indicates that the measured position of the EGR valve 'B' does not match the commanded position by the ECU. Most modern systems use a stepper motor or a DC-motor with a PWM signal and a feedback potentiometer. Errors are usually caused by carbon buildup preventing physical movement or electrical degradation of the sensor track within the valve assembly.
Possible Causes
Carbon buildup causing mechanical sticking of the EGR valve\n- Likely: Faulty EGR valve position sensor (internal failure)\n- Possible: Damaged wiring harness or corroded connectors affecting the PWM signal\n- Rare: Vacuum leak (if vacuum actuated with an electric solenoid)\n- Rare: Faulty Engine Control Unit (ECU)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
