Technical Description
P047A is a generic OBD-II diagnostic trouble code indicating a malfunction in the Exhaust Pressure Sensor 'B' circuit. This sensor monitors the exhaust backpressure, which is critical for VGT/VNT turbocharger control and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) monitoring. The ECU monitors the voltage signal (typically a 0-5V scale); if the signal is erratic, open, or shorted, the ECU will store this code and may trigger Limp Mode to prevent engine or turbocharger damage due to incorrect boost pressure regulation.
Possible Causes
Faulty Exhaust Pressure Sensor B (internal short or open circuit)
Damaged wiring harness or corroded connectors
Clogged or leaking pressure tube/hose between exhaust manifold and sensor
Faulty Engine Control Unit (ECU)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
