Technical Description
P0483 is a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) that indicates a failure in the cooling fan's 'rationality check'. The Engine Control Unit (ECM/PCM) monitors the fan's operation to ensure it is actually spinning at the commanded speed. This is often done by monitoring the current draw, using a Hall-effect sensor in the fan motor, or monitoring the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) drop when the fan is activated. If the cooling fan is commanded on but the expected drop in temperature or specific electrical feedback is not received, the P0483 code will trigger.
Possible Causes
Defective cooling fan motor or internal bearing failure (high resistance)
Loose connection, corrosion, or high resistance in the fan wiring/connector
Faulty fan relay or fan control module (PWM controller)
Faulty Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor or clogged radiator

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
