Technical Description
P0510 indicates a malfunction in the Closed Throttle Position Switch circuit. This switch informs the Engine Control Unit (ECU) when the throttle plate is fully closed, which is essential for idle speed control, deceleration fuel cut-off, and engine braking strategies. If the ECU does not detect a change in voltage when the throttle reaches its closed position, the code is triggered. In modern Drive-by-Wire systems, this function is typically integrated into the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor), but older systems utilize a dedicated micro-switch.
Possible Causes
Faulty idle position switch (microswitch) or integrated TPS sensor
Incorrect adjustment of the throttle stop screw or linkage
Open circuit or short to ground in the wiring between switch and ECU
Dirty or carbon-fouled throttle body preventing mechanical closure

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
