POT-B111F12
VOLVO
POT-B111F12 - Boot/Trunk motor close. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to battery
System
Power Operated Tailgate (POT)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsV70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (3)
What does this fault code mean?
The tailgate control module (POT) measures the voltage across the motor that closes the tailgate and has found the DC voltage too high. This usually means the power cable to the motor has contact with supply voltage instead of being insulated, or that the motor itself is damaged. Automatic closing of the tailgate may therefore work poorly or not at all.
Possible causes
- The cable supplying the tailgate closing motor is short-circuited to voltage
- Internal fault in the tailgate closing motor
What you can do
- 1Check that the tailgate fuses are intact, then read off and clear the fault code and test drive to see whether it comes back
- 2Check that the tailgate moves freely and does not stick in any position
- 3Check that the cable to the closing motor is undamaged, especially where it moves together with the tailgate
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the cable to the motor has no voltage to ground when closing is not activated
- 5Check that the connectors at the motor and at the control module are firmly seated and free from corrosion
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the motor and the wiring
Symptoms you may notice3
- The central locking for the tailgate does not work
- The tailgate is hard to close
- Automatic opening and closing of the tailgate does not work
