What does this fault code mean?
The sensor for the tailgate's inner lock position (sensor 1) does not change status when the tailgate is opened or closed, which the tailgate control module (POT) judges as an incorrect signal. The cause may be a damaged sensor, a loose wire or connector in the lock unit, a short to ground in the signal line, or a damaged lock unit.
Possible causes
- Damaged sensor
- Loose wire or connector in the lock unit
- Signal line from sensor 1 is short-circuited to ground
- Damaged tailgate lock unit
What you can do
- 1Read off and clear the fault code, then open and close the tailgate to see whether the fault comes back
- 2With the ignition on, close the tailgate using the button on its lower edge and check that sensor 1 changes status at the end of the closing
- 3Check that the wiring between the control module and the lock mechanism is intact and that the connectors at both ends are firmly seated
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal line from sensor 1 has no contact with ground
- 5If the wiring is intact: have a workshop replace the lock mechanism
Symptoms you may notice3
- The tailgate is hard to open
- The tailgate is hard to close
- Automatic opening and closing of the tailgate does not work
