POT-C112712 - Position Sensor. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to battery
System
Power Operated Tailgate (POT)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsV70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (3)
What does this fault code mean?
A signal wire to one of the tailgate's hall sensors has picked up voltage, or that sensor is damaged. The tailgate control module (POT) has found that the sensor is short-circuited to battery voltage.
Possible causes
- A signal wire to one hall sensor is shorted to voltage
- Damaged hall sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses for the tailgate are intact
- 2Read off and clear the fault code, test drive and see whether it returns
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal lines to the hall sensors have no voltage when they should not
- 4Check that the connectors at the hall sensors and the control module are firmly seated and free from corrosion
- 5If the wiring is intact: have a workshop replace the faulty hall sensor
Symptoms you may notice3
- The tailgate is hard to close
- The tailgate is hard to open
- Automatic opening and closing of the tailgate does not work
