Technical Description
P0007 is a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for 'Fuel Shutoff Valve A Control Circuit High'. This occurs when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects a voltage signal from the fuel shutoff valve circuit that is higher than the calibrated limit. In many systems, this indicates a short to voltage (B+) or an open circuit. The fuel shutoff valve is responsible for stopping fuel flow to the engine, and any malfunction in this circuit prevents the ECM from effectively managing engine shutdown or fuel delivery safety protocols.
Possible Causes
Faulty fuel shutoff valve (internal short)
Short to voltage in the wiring harness
Defective fuel system relay
Internal ECM/ECU failure
Symptoms
Recommended Solution
- VISUAL INSPECTION: Check the fuel shutoff valve connector for corrosion or bent pins. Inspect the wiring harness for signs of fraying or shorts.
- VOLTAGE TEST: Disconnect the valve and measure voltage at the harness connector with the ignition ON. Compare with OEM specs. Constant 12V when it should be grounded indicates a short to power.
- RESISTANCE TEST: Measure the resistance (Ohms) across the valve's solenoid terminals. Typical values are 10-30 Ohms. An 'O.L' reading indicates an open circuit.
- ADVANCED DIAGNOSIS: Use a scan tool to perform a 'Component Test' or activation to verify if the ECU can toggle the valve. Observe duty cycle if applicable.
- REPLACEMENT: If the valve's solenoid is out of spec, replace the fuel shutoff valve and clear DTCs.
Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
