Technical Description
P000B is set when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects that the exhaust camshaft position for Bank 1 is responding slower than the commanded target value. The system relies on Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology, using an oil control solenoid to adjust the timing. If there is a delay in the camshaft reaching its target position—due to oil pressure issues, mechanical sluggishness, or electrical resistance—the ECU monitors the deviation over a set period. If the lag exceeds the calibrated threshold (typically measured in milliseconds/degrees per second), the code is stored and the system may enter a reduced power mode.
Possible Causes
Dirty or incorrect engine oil (wrong viscosity or low level)
Clogged or faulty VVT solenoid (Oil Control Valve)
Defective camshaft phaser/actuator
Worn timing belt/chain components or clogged internal engine oil galleries

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
