Technical Description
P000D is stored when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects that the exhaust (Position B) camshaft on Bank 1 is responding slower than commanded during variable valve timing (VVT) adjustments. The ECM monitors the camshaft position via the CMP sensor and compares it against the target angle. If the transition between advance/retard timing exceeds the calibrated time limit, the code is triggered. This lag is typically caused by restricted oil flow, carbon buildup in the VVT solenoid, or mechanical wear within the phaser unit.
Possible Causes
Clogged or faulty VVT solenoid (Oil Control Valve)
Low engine oil level or incorrect oil viscosity/dirty oil
Failed camshaft phaser (actuator unit)
Oil pump issues or restricted oil passages in the cylinder head

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
