Technical Description
P002A is a generic OBD-II code indicating a circuit malfunction in the exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoid for Bank 2. The engine control unit (ECU) controls the camshaft timing via Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) to adjust engine efficiency and power. If the ECU detects an open circuit, short to ground, or short to voltage in the actuator solenoid's electrical path, it monitors the feedback and triggers this DTC. This prevents the VVT system from adjusting the exhaust valve timing correctly, which impacts the overlap period and scavenging efficiency.
Possible Causes
Faulty Exhaust VVT solenoid (internal coil open circuit)
Damaged wiring or corroded connectors leading to the solenoid
Oil sludge or debris causing mechanical binding leading to electrical deviations
Faulty Engine Control Unit (ECU)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
