Technical Description
P0035 is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects a high voltage condition in the turbocharger bypass valve control circuit. This signal typically indicates a short to voltage or an internal solenoid failure. The bypass valve (often an electronic solenoid) is used to vent excess boost pressure back into the intake air stream when the throttle plate closes suddenly. If the circuit voltage remains high, the ECM loses control over the valve, risking turbocharger compressor surge which can lead to premature mechanical failure of the turbocharger assembly.
Possible Causes
Faulty bypass valve solenoid (internal short)
Wiring shorted to voltage (B+)
Corrosion in the connector causing a short
Failed Engine Control Module (ECM/ECU) failing to drive the circuit low

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
