Technical Description
P0055 is a generic OBD-II diagnostic trouble code (DTC) indicating that the Engine Control Module (ECM/PCM) has detected an out-of-range resistance value in the heater circuit of the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) for Bank 1, Sensor 3. The oxygen sensor must reach an operating temperature of approximately 600°F (315°C) to provide accurate voltage signals. To expedite this process, an internal heater element is used. The PCM monitors the heater circuit's resistance; if it detects an electrical resistance that deviates from the predefined OEM specifications (typically 5–20 Ohms), the P0055 code is triggered.

Recommended Solution
- Perform a visual inspection of the wiring and connector for Bank 1, Sensor 3. Check for burnt or melted wires caused by exhaust heat.
- Measure the resistance (Ohms) across the two heater wires of the sensor. An infinite reading (OL) indicates an open circuit, while 0 Ohms indicates a short. Spec is typically 5–20 Ohms.
- Verify 12V battery power at the sensor connector with the ignition ON. Also check the ground circuit controlled by the PCM.
- If power and ground are present but the sensor resistance is incorrect, replace the sensor.
- Clear the codes and perform a road test to verify the fix.
