Technical Description
P005A is stored when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects that the B Camshaft (typically exhaust) profile control on Bank 1 is not performing as commanded or is stuck in the off position. The VVT/VCT system uses an oil control solenoid to phase the camshaft position. If the camshaft does not reach the desired angle within a specific timeframe or duty cycle threshold (usually verified via the camshaft position sensor), the ECU flags a performance error. This system is critical for optimizing volumetric efficiency, torque, and NOx reduction through internal EGR effects.
Possible Causes
Low engine oil level or incorrect oil viscosity affecting hydraulic operation
Faulty VVT/VCT oil control solenoid (B Camshaft)
Clogged oil passages or oil control valve filter screen
Mechanical failure of the camshaft phaser or excessive timing chain/belt stretch

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
