Technical Description
P005D is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects a performance issue or a 'stuck off' condition in the camshaft profile control circuit for Bank 2, Camshaft 'B'. This system typically manages variable valve lift or timing by controlling oil flow through a solenoid to the camshaft actuator. If the ECM commands a state change and the camshaft position sensor does not report the corresponding change, or if the solenoid duty cycle is outside of calibrated limits, this code is stored. 'Bank 2' refers to the side of the engine that does not contain cylinder number one.
Possible Causes
Dirty or contaminated engine oil blocking oil galleries or the solenoid
Faulty camshaft control solenoid (Bank 2)
Low engine oil pressure reaching the actuator
Wiring issues or poor connection at the solenoid connector
Internal mechanical failure of the camshaft actuator unit

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
