Technical Description
P0063 is a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for 'HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low' on Bank 2, Sensor 3. The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the heater circuit of the oxygen sensor to ensure it reaches operating temperature quickly to minimize emissions. If the ECM detects a voltage level below a calibrated threshold on the heater control circuit (often indicating a short to ground or low resistance), it will store this code. Sensor 3 is located downstream of the catalytic converters and is mainly used for monitoring catalyst efficiency.

Short to ground in the oxygen sensor wiring harness.
Internal short in the oxygen sensor heater element (low resistance).
Corroded or damaged connector causing a partial short.
Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM) heater driver circuit.

- Visual Inspection: Check wiring and connectors for Bank 2, Sensor 3 for damage, melting, or corrosion.
- Resistance Test: Disconnect the sensor and measure the resistance of the heater element (usually the two wires of the same color). Specified values are typically 5-20 Ohms. 0 Ohms indicates an internal short.
- Voltage Check: Verify 12V power supply to the heater circuit. Check the ground control from the ECM using a scope or multimeter capable of reading duty cycle.
- Replacement: If wiring is verified and the sensor resistance is out of spec, replace the oxygen sensor (Bank 2, Sensor 3).
