Technical Description
P0067 is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects a voltage on the air-assisted injector control circuit that is higher than the calibrated limit. The air-assisted injection system aids in fuel atomization during cold starts to reduce hydrocarbon emissions. The ECM monitors the solenoid's return signal (feedback loop); a 'High' condition usually indicates a short to power in the wiring harness or an internal short-circuit within the solenoid itself (low resistance leading to high current/voltage feedback).
Possible Causes
Short to voltage in the control circuit wiring
Faulty air assisted injector solenoid (internal short)
Corroded or loose electrical connectors
Internal Engine Control Module (ECM) failure
Symptoms
Recommended Solution
- Visual Inspection: Check the solenoid and wiring harness for fraying, melting, or corrosion. Ensure the connector is securely seated.
- Voltage Check: Measure voltage at the solenoid connector with ignition on. If the control wire shows 12V constantly without ECM command, check for a short to power.
- Resistance Test: Unplug the solenoid and measure resistance across the pins. Normal values are typically 10-30 Ohms. Close to 0 Ohms confirms an internal short.
- Bi-directional Test: Use a scan tool to command the solenoid ON/OFF. Monitor the circuit state via live data or an oscilloscope.
- Component Replacement: Replace the air assisted injector solenoid if it fails the resistance or functional tests.
Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
