Technical Description
P0076 is a generic OBD-II diagnostic trouble code (DTC) indicating that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected a low voltage condition in the Intake Valve Control Solenoid circuit for Bank 1. This solenoid is part of the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) system. The ECM controls the solenoid using a pulse-width modulated (PWM) signal to manage oil flow to the camshaft actuator. If the circuit voltage drops below a calibrated threshold (often indicating a short to ground or an open circuit), the ECM flags this fault, potentially locking the camshaft in its base timing position.
Possible Causes
Faulty Intake Valve Control Solenoid (internal short)
Damaged wiring harness or corroded connector (short to ground)
Low engine oil level or incorrect oil viscosity
Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
