Technical Description
P0077 is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects an abnormally high voltage in the Intake Valve Control Solenoid circuit for Bank 1 (Variable Valve Timing system). This typically indicates a short to voltage. The ECM uses Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) to control oil flow to the cam phaser. If the feedback voltage remains high when the ECM attempts to ground the circuit, this code is triggered to prevent damage to the ECM driver.
Possible Causes
Short to voltage in the VVT solenoid wiring harness
Faulty VVT solenoid (internal short circuit)
Corrosion or damaged pins in the electrical connector
Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
