Technical Description
P0080 is a generic OBD-II diagnostic trouble code (DTC) indicating that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected a high voltage condition within the exhaust valve control solenoid circuit for Bank 1. The ECM uses Variable Valve Timing (VVT) to adjust the timing of the exhaust valves to improve efficiency and performance. 'Circuit High' typically means the ECM detects battery voltage when it expects a lower voltage, often caused by a short to power or a faulty solenoid winding. The circuit is usually monitored via duty-cycle/PWM feedback.
Possible Causes
Short to power in the wiring harness for the exhaust VVT solenoid
Faulty exhaust VVT solenoid (internal short or resistance out of range)
Corroded or loose electrical connectors at the solenoid
Faulty Engine Control Unit (ECU) misinterpreting the voltage signal

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
