Technical Description
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0087 is triggered when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects that the fuel pressure in the rail or system has dropped below a pre-defined threshold. In common rail diesel or Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) systems, the Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) sensor monitors the pressure. If the actual pressure is significantly lower than the commanded setpoint, despite the Fuel Volume Regulator or Flow Control Valve increasing its duty cycle, the ECU sets this code to prevent engine damage and high emissions.
Possible Causes
Clogged fuel filter or restricted fuel supply line.
Faulty Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) sensor or wiring issues.
Failing High-Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) or leaking fuel injectors (excessive back-leakage).
Lift pump failure (in-tank) or fuel pump driver module issues.
