Technical Description
P008D is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects an abnormally high voltage signal on the fuel pressure cooler pump control circuit. This circuit controls a dedicated pump used to circulate fuel through a heat exchanger (cooler) to maintain optimal fuel temperature and prevent cavitation or damage to fuel system components. The high signal usually indicates a short circuit to voltage or an open circuit condition where the ECM is unable to pull the control line to ground. The system often employs PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) to regulate pump speed, and any deviation from commanded duty-cycle voltage triggers the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp).
Possible Causes
Short circuit to voltage in the fuel cooler pump wiring harness
Faulty fuel cooler pump (internal short or open circuit)
Faulty fuel cooling relay (if equipped)
Corrosion in the ECM connector or internal ECM failure

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
