Technical Description
P0092 is stored when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects an abnormally high voltage within the fuel pressure regulator control circuit. The regulator (commonly known as the inlet metering valve or suction control valve) uses a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal to manage fuel flow into the high-pressure pump. A 'Circuit High' condition typically signifies a short circuit to voltage (B+) or an internal failure in the solenoid where the resistance becomes infinite. This disrupts fuel pressure management, forcing the vehicle into Limp Home Mode or causing an immediate engine shutdown to prevent over-pressurization of the fuel rail.
Possible Causes
Short circuit to voltage (B+) in the wiring harness for the fuel pressure regulator
Faulty fuel pressure regulator (internal short or open circuit in the solenoid)
Corrosion or poor connection in the electrical connector at the high-pressure pump
Internal failure of the Engine Control Unit (ECU) driver stage

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
