Diagnostic trouble code P009B is triggered when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects an open circuit in the fuel pressure relief valve control circuit. This valve is typically mounted on the fuel rail and is responsible for venting excessive fuel pressure back to the return line during specific operating conditions or engine shutdown. The ECM monitors the continuity and resistance of the circuit; if it detects zero current flow or an unexpected voltage state when the valve should be energized, the code is set. This malfunction disables precise fuel pressure management, often forcing the vehicle into a reduced power mode (Limp Mode) to protect fuel system components.
