Technical Description
P00AB is stored when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects a range or performance issue with the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor 1 located on Bank 2. The sensor is typically an NTC thermistor where resistance decreases as temperature increases. The ECM monitors the voltage drop across the sensor. If the signal remains static, or deviates significantly from predicted values (comparing against Bank 1 or ECT after a cold soak), this DTC is triggered. This signal is crucial for ignition timing and fuel delivery calculations based on air density.
Possible Causes
Faulty Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor 1, Bank 2
Contamination (oil or dirt) on the sensor element
High resistance or corrosion in the sensor connector terminals
Wiring harness issues (chafing causing intermittent shorts or open circuits)
Very rare: Engine Control Module (ECM) internal fault or software calibration issue

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
