Technical Description
P00AC is stored when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects an abnormally low voltage from the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor 1 located on Bank 2. On V-configured engines, Bank 2 refers to the side opposite to cylinder #1. The IAT sensor is a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor where resistance drops as temperature rises. A 'Circuit Low' condition typically indicates a short to ground in the signal wire or an internal sensor failure. The ECM relies on this data for air density calculations to manage fuel trim and ignition timing. If the signal is implausible, the ECM may default to a fail-safe value, potentially triggering limp mode.

Recommended Solution
- STEP 1: Inspect the IAT sensor connector on Bank 2 for moisture, corrosion, or backed-out pins.
- STEP 2: Use an OBD-II scanner to monitor Live Data. If the temperature reads abnormally high (e.g., 150°C+), a short circuit is present.
- STEP 3: Disconnect the sensor. If the scanner value drops to -40°C, the wiring is intact and the sensor is faulty. If it remains high, the short is in the wiring harness.
- STEP 4: Measure sensor resistance with a multimeter. At 20°C, resistance should typically be 2000-3000 Ohms. Verify 5.0V reference voltage from the ECM.
- STEP 5: Repair wiring or replace the IAT sensor (frequently integrated into the MAF sensor).
