Technical Description
P0243 is triggered when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects an electrical failure in the circuit for wastegate control solenoid 'A'. The ECU monitors the feedback or resistance from the solenoid while attempting to modulate turbocharger boost pressure via PWM (Pulse Width Modulation). If the ECU detects an open circuit, short to ground, or short to voltage, the code is stored. This diagnostic covers the electrical integrity of the solenoid circuit and is distinct from mechanical boost faults like overboost or underboost, though it often results in standard boost levels (limp mode) to protect the engine.
Possible Causes
Faulty wastegate solenoid (internal open circuit/coil failure)
Corrosion or poor connection in the solenoid connector
Wiring harness break or short circuit between solenoid and ECU
Internal ECU failure (driver circuit fault)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
