Technical Description
P052E is stored when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects a performance issue with the Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) regulator valve. In modern engines (notably Mercedes-Benz M274/M270), the PCV system is actively controlled. The ECU monitors crankcase pressure sensors or intake manifold pressure to verify that the PCV valve is opening and closing as commanded. If the valve is stuck, restricted, or if there is a vacuum leak affecting the pressure delta, the ECU triggers this code. This is typically a performance fault, meaning the electrical circuit is intact, but the mechanical operation is sub-optimal.
Possible Causes
Faulty PCV valve/oil separator assembly (mechanically stuck)
Vacuum leaks in hoses or PCV system connections
Clogged oil separator or carbon buildup in the passages
Faulty crankcase pressure sensor or ECU software issue

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
